The Small Wins Are the Whole Point.

It's easy to measure bilingual parenting in big, visible milestones: fluency, full conversations, reading chapter books in two languages. By that measure, progress can feel painfully slow, or even invisible.

But the real wins are smaller than that, and they're happening more often than they get noticed.

The first Mandarin word that stuck. A joke they understood without translation. A song they sang back to you, unprompted, in the bath or the backseat of the car. These moments don't look like milestones. They are the milestones.

That backseat moment is one I think about a lot. One of my favorite moments was when my own child started humming the 小脑袋，大问题 jingle, or stopped me mid-conversation to ask about something he'd heard in the podcast. He wasn’t trying to perform the language. It had just settled in, the way small things do when nobody's watching.

If you've had one of these moments recently, even a tiny one, that's not a small thing. That’s the whole point.
